Andy and Opie and Me
(c) Ed Gregory - thewriteguy@thewritespot.com - 615-887-4745
She smiles to hear the news from all her family this week
and says a girl embarrased Opie when she kissed him on his cheek
She talks about my daddy, and heaves a little sigh
then laughs and tells me Goober's come to teach Aunt Bea to drive.CHORUS:
Her life has changed, it's rearranged
It's very plain to see
But she's got good friends at her fingertips
and loves Andy and Opie and me.She’s got lots of family photos and snapshots near her bed
There’s me, my kids, my sister, and our long lost uncle Ned
When we’re not there she sees us smiling from the wall
And her Mayberry kin fit right in with the biggest grins of all(CHORUS)
She asks if I'm still driving that same automobile.
And wonders if Aunt Bea could help poor Lucy cook a meal
She tells those well-worn stories about kin long gone and buried
And announces with a big old grin that Andy's getting married.(CHORUS)
When her shows aren't on there's magazines, her newspaper and books
Sometimes she sits there quiet on her face a faraway looks
She kept us fed and kept us clean she helped us find the laughter
Someday we'll see her reruns in the heavenly hereafter.TALKING BRIDGE:
But not anytime soon. The Dukes come on at 4.
You know, the good ones.
Say, do you know if Perry Mason ever had a wife?
Hush child. Here comes Lawrence Welk.(CHORUS)
